And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2 NKJV
What is it that holds us to the ways of this world? I’ve been challenged to search myself with this question. Can I just leave it behind and move out into the wilderness for a time? The fantasy of it seems like an exciting adventure, but in reality, I’m going to have withdrawals from my favorite tv shows, Xbox games eating at my favorite restaurant etc.
This message probably isn’t for most, but for myself, God told me to pull away from this world. I don’t believe His plan for me involves a 30-year mortgage or giving an employer so much of my time, that I’m completely spent at the end of the day with nothing left for God. As a matter of fact, I ignored God when He told me not to sign that mortgage, even leaving my church in the pursuit of wealth. “God, this is just what we have to do in this society.” Leaving that foundation cost me far more that I wanted to pay. On the other hand, I know plenty of those who serve God well in these lifestyles.
My message is that if there is anything you are not willing to sacrifice for God, then it is holding you to this world, and nothing has that much worth. I have seen some of my Christian brothers focus so hard on their career, always looking for that next level of pay and doing whatever needed to get there only to end up in divorce or bad health losing all. My thoughts find their way to the wealthy man asking Jesus, “What must I do to receive eternal life?” I’ve never been rich, but I know plenty of carnal things have hindered my full potential in God’s Kingdom.
